Join us for Ames Day at the Capitol, where Ames business, community, and institutional leaders will have a unique opportunity to interact with State Legislators, officials, and lobbyists at our beautiful State Capitol. The day’s agenda includes meetings with Legislative Leadership and an Ames community showcase in the Capitol Rotunda, which provides excellent exposure for any participant, as more than 500 people attend. Lunch is provided by Hickory Park, a perk that makes Ames Day at the Capitol one of the most memorable days of the entire Session. Rooted in the heart of the Legislative Session, Ames Day at the Capitol presents Chamber members an opportunity to showcase their organization and engage decision makers making policy decisions on their behalf.
An excellent opportunity to learn about city, school board, county, and state candidates for elected office, as well as critical issues to consider leading up to Election Day.
Legislative Luncheons occur throughout the year to provide business, community, and institutional leaders an opportunity to engage state, county, and local elected officials. The Luncheons provide Chamber members an opportunity to socialize and interact with our state, county, and local elected officials and facilitate transparency and accountability in the political process. The Luncheons are also an excellent opportunity for elected officials to highlight the work they are doing and the issues and projects they are advocating for on their constituents behalf.
Legislative After Hours is modeled after the Chamber’s popular Business After Hours, but specifically attracts and targets our local elected officials and Chamber members with a passion for policy and politics. These informal events provide an excellent opportunity for elected officials and Chamber members alike to have productive and informative discussions regarding policies effecting the Ames and Story County community in a social setting over hors d’oeurves, beer, wine, and beverages.
Every summer, the Chamber assembles a delegation of community, business, and institutional leaders to travel to Washington, D.C. and present the Chamber and members of our delegations’ federal priorities to our federal elected officials and select federal agencies. The trip provides an excellent opportunity to provide a clear and unified message to our federal officials, their staffs’, and federal agency representatives’ regarding critical policy issues of the Ames and Story County community. Through this direct interaction with our Senators, Congressmen, and federal officials, we ensure critical policy issues of the Ames and Story County community are heard and addressed in the most effective and efficient manner possible.
